What's the difference between Whole and Split antlers?

Whole Antlers have the naturally hard outer surface intact, with the interior antler marrow mostly enclosed. They are typically more durable and longer-lasting, making them a great choice for dogs who enjoy a more challenging chew.

Split Antlers are cut lengthwise to expose the naturally porous antler marrow. Split antlers allow immediate access to the marrow. They’re a popular choice for lighter chewers or dogs new to antlers.

What size should I choose for my dog?

Choose an antler based on your dog’s size and chewing style. Our product page also includes recommended weight ranges for each size.

Small Chew (3-5 inches) - Dogs 20 lbs or less

Medium Chew (5-7 inches) - Dogs 20 – 45 lbs

Large Chew (7-9 inches) - Dogs 45 – 75 lbs

XL Chew (8-10 inches) - Dogs 75 – 95 lbs

Giant Chew (9 – 12 inches) - Dogs over 95 lbs

When in doubt, choose a larger size.

How long will an elk antler chew last?

It depends on your dog and their chewing style. Whole antlers typically last longer than Split antlers because the marrow is not exposed. Antler will wear down over time, so please inspect the chew regularly to make sure it does not become a choking hazard or too sharp.

Keep the antler in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight, as both can affect the quality of the antler over time.

Where does your elk antler come from?

Our antler comes from pasture-raised elk on our family farm or a small group of trusted U.S. elk ranchers we’ve worked with for decades. Bull elk (males) shed and regrow their antlers every year, so our antler is a fresh, renewable resource that we get to share with our customers.

Do you use weathered or treated antler for dog chews?

No. Long-term exposure to sun, rain, moisture, and the elements can cause antler to dry out, crack, or become damaged. We do not use old or weathered antlers for our dog chews.

No. We do not use chemicals, artificial flavors, ingredients, or preservatives on our elk antler dog chews.

We take pride in keeping our preparation process simple. Each antler is power washed with water to remove dirt, then carefully sanded to smooth any sharp edges.

Our elk herd is also hormone and antibiotic free.

Did you hunt elk for these antlers?

No. While we do eat elk meat from our animals, we do not raise elk for the purpose of harvesting their antlers.

Our primary focus is breeding and raising high-quality elk while supporting the long-term health and strength of the elk industry. Antlers are a renewable resource that elk grow every year, and we believe in putting that valuable resource to good use.

Do I need to supervise my dog while chewing?

Yes. Always supervise your dog and do not allow them to swallow it or attempt to consume the entire antler.

Are elk antler chews safe for my dog?

Elk antlers are extremely durable natural chews, but no chew is appropriate for every dog.

Always choose an appropriately sized chew based on your dog’s size, health, and chewing habits. Supervise your dog while chewing. Dogs that are aggressive or powerful chewers, or dogs with certain dental conditions, may be at greater risk of tooth damage.

Never allow your dog to swallow large pieces or attempt to consume the entire antler. Inspect the chew regularly and remove it if it becomes cracked, sharp, excessively worn, or small enough to swallow.

Can puppies have elk antler chews?

We recommend waiting until your puppy has all of their adult teeth, typically around 7 months of age. Timing can vary by puppy, so make sure teething is complete before introducing an antler chew.

Split antlers may be easier for puppies to access. Always supervise your puppy, choose an appropriate size, and if you’re unsure whether an antler chew is right for them, consult your veterinarian.

Will elk antler splinter?

We take care to select high-quality, non-weathered antler for our dog chews. Antler is naturally dense and durable, but no natural chew is indestructible.

As your dog chews, inspect the antler regularly and replace it if you notice cracks, sharp edges, splintering, or excessive wear.

Old and weathered antler has a higher probability of splintering. We do not use old or weathered antler.

Always supervise your dog while chewing.
